Giorgos Rorris

Biographical Note

Born in Cosma, Arcadia in 1963.

Giorgos Rorris studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1982-1987) with professors P. Tetsis and G. Valavanidis. He continued his studies in Paris at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts with Professor L. Cremonini with scholarships from the B. and E. Goulandris Foundation and the Bacala Brothers Foundation.

In 2001 he was awarded first prize by the Athens Academy for artists under 40 years of age.

He has collaborated with Art and Literature Center “Apopsis” (1996-2002) and has taught with Art Group “Seimio” since 2002.

He has had solo exhibitions in Athens at Gallery Medusa, in Paris at Gallerie Flak, and in New York at the Hellenic Cultural Center.

Painting from the realist tradition, he works with everyday rooms and spaces, focusing most recently on portraits and nudes. His paintings move beyond representation; light and shade are employed to create strongly psychological works revealing the essence of both the subject and the artist.
